FULL STORY

ACT 1

A frustrated aged actor and playwright finds fulfillment as a grade school Theatre teacher.

Joseph Brady (rumored Lee Majors) a.k.a. Joe or Mr. Joe takes a teaching job. He teaches theatre at the school to pay the rent. In his 'spare time', he strives to achieve his true goal:

"write a memorable PLAYWRIGHT to leave his mark on the world.

He calls the play 'The Sound Of Christmas'. "

Joe discovers 'Life is to do great work BUT MORE IMPORTANTLY TO love what you do.’ As the years unfold, the joy of sharing his unyielding passion for music, acting and storytelling with his students becomes his new definition of success.

One student, Willow Cassidy 7 (EmmaRain Welling) who has been a mute since the age of 3, becomes his most unlikely, yet passionate student. Unable to talk, she signs or writes down everything with pink pencils ON a miniature pad of paper, that is hanging from her neck.

Willow stays after school to take private music lessons from Miss Tara Seagull (Alexis Arnold), a trained musician and voice coach, in hopes of impressing others of her musical talents in spite of the absence of her voice.

Willow often expresses to everyone with complete confidence that:

"One day i will sing so loud

The angels from heaven will come down to listen. "

She communicates this by writing or using sign language. Willow is always smiling, kind and unaffected by her ailment.

She is a shining light to all.

While prepping for the school’s Christmas Pageant, the music teachers, Mr. Gabriel Berry a.k.a. Gabe (Tom Vera), places Willow center on the third row in the chorus line up.  She is laughed at by a few students as they know she can't sing at all, much less even talk. Most of the students, however, support her for being there. Her mentors, Mr. Joe and Miss Seagull, are there to give her the confidence to carry on.

ACT 2

One day Willow falls on the playground during recess and breaks her leg. She screams for help, but no one can hear her. Willow gets up but, as her vision becomes blurred, she trips over a toy that was left in her path.

School bully, Haley Diamond, sees the accident and laughs. Haley tells no one as she watches Willow CRY FOR HELP. THE cry IS empty AND unheard AS HER MUTE INFLICTION HAS LITTLE WILLOW ALONE IN THE COLD. Willow lays on the ground in pain. Miss SeagULl senses something is wrong, as she and Willow have created an inseparable bond. She finds Willow half unconscious on the playground, plagued by the cold.

Willow’s parents, James Cassidy (Joshua Peri) and Julie Cassidy, take her in for a complete exam to see if any other bones are broken BESIDES HER LEFT LEG. They are told from a specialist, Dr. Rebecca Blackwell (Andi Saks), that the MRI shows that Willow has a brain tumor.

The tumor is the cause of the blurred vision and no doubt has deeply effected her vocal cords SINCE AGE 3.

Willow is given 6 months to live. The tumor had been dormant for many years but now is growing rapidly,  Her parents are devastated, yet Willow tells them she is ready to go to heaven to be with God and it is ok. Willow asks that they not tell anyone.

ACT 3

The big moment for the Christmas pageant is here and the principal can't seem to find Mr. Joe anywhere wanted to remind him that the big pageant, in the stunning school church, is about to start.

Mr. Joe resolves to solitude and prayer minutes before appearing in the church to watch the pageant. Mr. Joe prays for a miracle that one day the angels will hear Willow sing… as Willow has professed to Mr. Joe many times.

Mr. Joe has been told of Willow’s condition and is devastated.

Handel’s Messiah is about to begin. Haley Diamond, who has been the main school bully to Willow, places her hand gently on Willow’s shoulder from her back and whispers “Willow, I am sorry for being so mean to you, will you please forgive me”? Willow turns with a smile and shakes her head up and down as a gentle yes. They both are ready for the pageant to start. A tear drop comes from Willow’s eye and she mouths AN UNHEARD BUT DEEPLY UNDERSTOOD “thank you” to the once bully.

Willow turns to face the large audience of parents and friends. THE ONCE BULLY Haley begins to cry with a smile as her heavy heart is released. She privately promises to God to never bully again.

The pipe organ begins and the children begin to sing as Willow mouths along with her unheard voice and privately signs the words. Willow is now wearing glasses but takes them off after her tear drop smears the glasses, she is mouthing the words to a blurred audience.

Haley watches Willow closely and begins to hear a small voice coming from her mouth. For the first time ever, she is singing “Hallelujah.” Willow’s voice slowly gets louder and louder.   WILLOW STARTS TO SEE CLEARLY AGAIN WITHOUT HER GLASSES. MISS SEAGULL IS TEARY EYED AS SHE HEARS WILLOW'S PRECIOUS VOICE.

Gabe, Miss SeagULl and Mr. Joe all notice the children around Willow turning to her in silence and amazement as Willow begins to sing the Hallelujah chorus a cappella.

Miss SeagULl says quietly “and now the angels are on their way” then she begins to softly cry. All the students join in to sing with Willow as Haley places her arm around Willow.

The whole church begins to sing as we cut to beams of light above the church piercing down from the clouds above. Small sparkles of golden flakes are noticed in the beams of light. There is no doubt that these are angels .

One WEEK later, Willow visits Mr. Joe on his last day of teaching. Mr. Joe had found out that not only haD Willow’s voice been completely restored, but her cancer had completely dissipated overnight after the Christmas pageant. Willow is no longer wearing glasses.

Willow states that Miss SeagULl and everyone will miss him, and that everyone is sad to see him retire. Apologetically, Willow said Miss SeagULl and her had read the PLAY he left on his desk. THEY felt bad about reading it without his permission. Mr. Joe was actually pleased and thankful someone cared enough TO READ IT.   JOKINGLY MR. JOE EXCLAIMS, "FROM THE GREAT PLAYWRIGHT Joseph Brady, "THE SOUND OF CHRISTMAS" HAS LEFT ITS MARK ON A DUSTY DESK AND THAT IS THE ONLY MARK IT WILL LEAVE ON THIS WORLD."

They hug and Willow says “I hope I see ya around and Merry Christmas!” She leaves and the door quietly closes. Mr. Joe gets up and looks around at group pics of him with the kids. As he leaves, a sadness comes over him.

Walking down the lonely hallway, he hears chatter of familiar words in the school auditorium. Curious, he opens the door to see the complete stage setting of his play, built by the children.

The children prepare the opening act after Miss SeagULl and Gabe take him to his chair. They hand Mr. Joe the playbill. The children created the front cover that said “The Sound of Christmas by Joseph Brady.”

The voice of Willow Cassidy is heard across the full auditorium, filled with parents, GUESTS and students, “Ladies and Gentlemen we are honored and proud to present ‘The Sound of Christmas’” Mr. Joe begins to tear up and smile. (Cut to black)
